Where did you do your work experience?

Selly oak

What did you do?

My year 10 experience gave me a good view of what it is like to work in a hospital.

I did a number of things such as shadowing nurses, consultants and doctors in different departments of the hospital. I also went around to the admin departments of the hospital such as human resources where there was a lot of filing.

What did you enjoy most?

I enjoyed working with the doctors and nurses and seeing what they do, especially in the neonatal ward. The babies were so cute!

I also did a first aid and fire course which was so much fun.

What did you learn?

I learnt that it takes a lot of different job roles to make a hospital and each and every one of them is important, even if it is being a cleaner.

There is a lot of paper work involved.

Do you have any advice for other people?

Apply very early - there is a lot of competition.

I would also advise you to consider joining the NHS, no matter what job you choose. It only takes a willing heart to make the world a better place for everyone!
