Where did you do your work experience?

Barnstaple

What did you do?

I shadowed Foundation Year 1 junior doctors, senior house officers, audiologists, radiographers, nurses and senior healthcare assistants.

There were 25 of us and we had two days of practical placements and three days of talks and learning practical skills.

What did you enjoy most?

I enjoyed shadowing the junior doctors the most as I want to do medicine. It was a real insight into the career.

What did you learn?

I learnt a lot about the day-to-day tasks of a doctor, as well as simple anatomy, reasons for blood tests and how to treat some conditions.

Do you have any advice for other people?

If you want to do something within the NHS but are unsure of what, do work experience.

It was probably the best week of my life (sounds silly, but it was) and it has confirmed what I want to do.
