Where did you do your work experience?

Grimsby

What did you do?

I spent most of my two weeks in medical records pulling records and putting them back. I also spent time in the plaster room and on the main reception desk.

What did you enjoy most?

I enjoyed working in the plaster room, shadowing an orthopaedic practitioner in a fracture clinic. It was really interesting learning about the different casts and injuries I saw. The person I was shadowing explained everything to me.

What did you learn?

I learnt about all of the time and effort that goes on behind the scenes in a hospital and the effort that goes in just to get the notes to the doctors.

Do you have any advice for other people?

If you can get a placement anywhere in the hospital, take it! Even if it's not the area you want to eventually work in. The supervisors will listen to what you want to do and organise things for you to do.
